Women’s Basketball Finishes the Weekend Against Indiana State Sunday Afternoon

Flames and Sycamores set to battle for the second time this season

TERRE HAUTE, IND.  – The UIC women's basketball team (14-12, 6-9 MVC) concludes its road trip through Indiana with an early Sunday afternoon match-up against Indiana State (10-14, 5-10 MVC). The game starts at noon CT will be available to stream on ESPN+.

MATCH-UP BREAKDOWN
  • On Jan. 5, the Sycamores fended off the Flames at Credit Union 1 Arena, 59-48. Danyel Middleton led the Flames in scoring with her season-high 16 points coming off the bench. Ky Dempsey-Toney netted 14 points in the loss.
  • The Sycamores hold a four-game winning streak over the Flames dating back to Dec. 8, 2018. Indiana State leads the overall series, 13-3.
  • UIC's last victory over Indiana State was back on Nov. 30, 2017, when the Flames won at home, 56-46.
  • The Sycamore's Del' Janae Williams is the 11th best scorer in the Missouri Valley Conference, averaging 13.5 PPG. She has scored in double figures in six of her last seven games.
OVERTIME THRILLER IN EVANSVILLE
  • The Flames began their two-week road trip battling the Evansville Aces (11-13, 6-9 MVC) Friday night, falling in overtime, 68-65.
  • The Flames were led offensively by Sara Zabrecky who scored 17 points. She sank five three-pointers throughout the game, tying her season-high of made three-pointers.
  • Jaida McCloud scored 13 points and grabbed a team-leading eight rebounds. Josie Filer and Tiana Jackson each netted 11.
FILER'S FIREPOWER
  • Josie Filer is on the cusp of 1,000 career points in her collegiate career, currently 47 points away from the milestone.
  • Filer leads the team in scoring with 12.2 PPG and a team-leading 6.5 rebounds per game.
  • The graduate transfer has scored in double figures in 16 games for the Flames so far this season and has a team-leading three double-doubles to her name.
  • She has also been recognized as the Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week on two different occasions during the season (Nov. 14 and Jan. 16).
ON MCCLOUD NINE
  • Jaida McCloud is 64 points away from 1,000 career points in her third season for the Flames
  • The junior has scored in double figures in seven consecutive games in a row, averaging 16 points a game during that span.
  • In UIC's win against Drake on Feb. 12, McCloud led the team in scoring with 19 points and a career-high 14 rebounds.
CONFERENCE STANDINGS
  • UIC is currently in a three-way tie with Evansville and Southern Illinois (11-13, 6-9 MVC) for sixth place in the Missouri Valley Conference.
  • Evansville is set to host Valparaiso (5-19, 3-12 MVC) and Southern Illinois will be hosting Murray State (12-12, 5-10 MVC) on Sunday.
