TERRE HAUTE, IND- The UIC women's basketball team (15-12, 7-9 MVC) defeated Indiana State (10-15, 5-11) on the road Sunday Afternoon, 56-50.
The Flames were led offensively by their frontcourt of
Josie Filer and
Jaida McCloud, each securing double-doubles. Filer scored 15 points, grabbed 13 rebounds, four assists and three steals. McCloud netted 15 points, 11 rebounds, a steal and an assist.
COACHES COMMENT
"I'm really proud of our bounce back, to come off of an overtime loss by three to Evansville that we had up 13, to come off that with a little bit a of let down there and be able to respond the way that we did today consistently through all four quarters was huge," Flames head coach
Ashleen Bracey said. "I'm very proud of my team's resiliency for doing that."

Josie Filer said about not getting lost in the emotion of a close game. "We lean on each other and our coaches in those moments for support."
FIRST HALF
- The lead changed six times throughout the first quarter with no lead bigger than five points. The Flames shot 26% from the field and trailed by one going into the second quarter, 15-14.
- Josie Filer was strong on the boards grabbing six of her 13 rebounds in the first ten minutes of the game.
- In the second quarter, the Flames outscored the Sycamores, 12-11. The game remained at a stalemate heading to halftime, 26-26.
- Working in UIC's favor was its work at the foul line. They went seven-for-nine from the charity stripe, shooting 78%. Indiana State missed its only two free throws of the entire half.
SECOND HALF
- The Flames started the second half shooting their best in the third quarter. They shot 53% from the field.
- UIC had its biggest lead of the game, 41-33 in the last 2:30 minutes of the third quarter. The Sycamores bridged the gap as the seconds wind down, going on a 10-2 run. Flames led after three, 43-42.
- The lead changed four different times throughout the fourth quarter, but the Flames began to breakaway after Josie Filer landed two consecutive lay-ups to begin a 7-2 run in the closing seconds.
CONFERENCE STANDINGS
- This is only the second win on the road against the Missouri Valley Conference for the Flames. Their first road win came back on Feb. 1 against Valparaiso (6-19, 4-12 MVC). In the season overall, the Flames are 5-7 on the road.
- UIC remains in sixth place in the Missouri Valley Conference Standings after Sunday at 7-9 against MVC opponents. They have a chance to tie with Southern Illinois (9-15, 6-9 MVC) once again depending on how they fair against Murray State (12-12, 5-10 MVC) Sunday evening.
JOSIE AND JAIDA'S JOURNEY TO 1,000
- Josie's performance today puts her 32 points away from 1,000 career points in her collegiate career. She leads the Flames in scoring (12.3 PPG) and rebounds per game (6.8 RPG). She also leads the team this season with four double-doubles.
- Jaida now is 49 points away from 1,000 career points in her three years with the Flames. She has scored in double figures in eight consecutive games and earned her second double-double of the season against the Sycamores.
The Flames remain on the road next week when they take on Illinois State (19-7, 13-3 MVC) on Thursday, Feb. 23. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
