Women’s Basketball Begins Second Week on the Road Against Illinois State Thursday Night

This will be head coach Ashleen Bracey's first game back at the CEFCU Arena against her alma mater

NORMAL, ILL. – The UIC women's basketball team (15-12, 7-9 MVC) are set to begin their second week on the road with a match-up against Illinois State (19-7, 13-3 MVC) Thursday night. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. and will be available to stream on ESPN+.

MATCH-UP BREAKDOWN
  • This is the second time the Flames and the Redbirds are set compete on the hardwood this season. Back on Jan. 29, Illinois State defeated UIC at Credit Union 1 Arena, 55-42. Josie Filer led the team with a double-double, scoring 10 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Jaida McCloud also netted 10 points in the game.
  • Entering the 23rd match-up between the programs, Illinois State leads the series overall 19-3, having won seven of the last eight meetings. The last win for the Flames came back on the road on Nov. 23, 2015, when they defeated Illinois State, 74-65.
  • The Redbirds have dropped two of their last three games losing to Drake and Missouri State. They are currently in a three-way tie for first place in the Missouri Valley Conference with UNI (18-7, 13-3 MVC) and Belmont (17-10, 13-3 MVC).
  • The Redbirds Paige Robinson is the leading scorer for Illinois State and the second-best scorer in the MVC. She currently averages 18.8 points per game.
TEAM WIN IN TERRE HAUTE
  • UIC completed week one on the road on a high note with a win against Indiana State (10-15, 5-11 MVC) on Sunday at the Hulman Center, 56-50.
  • The Flames were led by their frontcourt of Josie Filer and Jaida McCloud, each with double-doubles. Filer scored 15 points, grabbed 13 rebounds, four assists and three steals. McCloud netted 15 points, 11 rebounds, a steal and an assist.
  • This was the first win for UIC at the Hulman Center, having gone 0-3 in the past.
CONFERENCE STANDINGS
  • The Flames are the lone team in sixth place, having been tied with other programs for the position over the last few weeks in the standings.
  • Murray State (13-12, 6-10 MVC), Evansville (11-14, 6-10 MVC) and Southern Illinois (9-16, 6-10 MVC) are all one game behind the Flames with four conference games remaining.
FILER FIREPOWER
  • Filer now sits 32 points away from 1,000 career points in her collegiate career.
  • In her lone season with the Flames, Filer leads in scoring (12.3 PPG), rebounds (6.8 RPG) and double doubles (4) in the season.
ON MCCLOUD NINE
  • Jaida McCloud has been hitting her offensive stride as of late, scoring in double figures for the last eight consecutive games in a row.
  • The junior is currently 49 points from reaching 1,000 points in her collegiate career.
  • She is second on the team in scoring (11.8 PPG) and rebounds (6.4 RPG).
