Box Score CHICAGO – The UIC men's basketball team rounded out its regular season of competition Sunday, as it hosted Southern Illinois on the Flames' Senior Day. Following a pre-game ceremony to honor graduate student
Tre Anderson, the Flames and Salukis took the floor for a back-and-forth, competitive contest.
Â
FIRST HALF
- Tre Anderson started off his Senior Day with five early points prior to the under-12-minute media timeout, helping UIC establish a 15-11 lead at the 11:50 mark.
- Lance Jones helped the slow-starting Salukis stay in the game early on, as his early seven points contradicted SIU's early sub-30 percent shooting from the floor.
- Turnovers were a problem for both sides early in the contest, with the two combining for 10 turnovers in the first 10 minutes.
- Anderson continued his early momentum for the entirety of the first half, netting 12 points to lead the Flames, who trailed by just one at the break 32-31, in part due to a late 6-0 SIU run.
SECOND HALF
- Both sides struggled shooting coming out of the locker room, making just seven of their first 21 shots combined.
- Tre Anderson added six early points in the first eight minutes of the second half, bringing his total to a game-leading 19 by the under-12-minute media timeout.
- Jace Carter and Tre Anderson led the way offensively for UIC, scoring 36 of the Flames' first 52 points.
- Jace Carter brought his streak of consecutive games scoring in double-digits to 12 games, dating back to Jan. 10 against Drake.
- UIC mounted a late comeback along with a 5-0 run to tie the game at 60 with just 2:34 remaining.
- Despite that late run, the Salukis would outscore the Flames 8-5 in the final two minutes to grab a victory, with Filip Skobalj's game-tying three point attempt falling just short at the buzzer.
The Flames will gear up for their first appearance in Arch Madness next week, as they will claim the number 11 seed, and play in the number 6 vs. 11 game at 8:30 p.m. CT in St. Louis Thursday night, taking on Missouri State.
