Women's Basketball Set to Battle Missouri State Saturday Afternoon

The Flames are ready to maintain strong start to the second half of MVC play.

SPRINGFIELD, MO– The UIC women's basketball team (13-9, 5-6 MVC) finish their week off taking on Missouri State (13-7, 8-3 MVC) on the road Saturday afternoon.

MATCHUP BREAKDOWN
  • UIC and Missouri State are set to compete for only the second time against one another.  
  • They last competed against each other on Dec. 19, 2005, when the Bears outlasted the Flames, 68-64.
  • The Bears continue to have a strong showing in the MVC, currently ranked third in conference play with losses only to Illinois State, Valparaiso, and Belmont.
  • Missouri State's Aniya Thomas is leading the team in scoring with 14.9 PPG, ranking her ninth in scoring in the Missouri Valley Conference.
SWEEPIN' THE BEACONS
  • UIC completed a regular season sweep against Valparaiso Wednesday night, 55-53.
  • The Flames were led offensively by their front court of Jaida McCloud and Josie Filer. McCloud scored 19 points and grabbed five rebounds. Filer netted 16 points and was one rebound away from a double-double with nine.
  • The Flames snapped a five-game road losing streak with this victory, dating back to Dec. 20 when they first lost to SEMO, 56-55.
  • UIC now is tied in sixth place in the MVC.
JOSIE'S JOURNEY TO 1,000
  • Filer is only 79 points away from reaching 1,000 total career points in her collegiate career.
  • In her first and lone season with the Flames, the graduate transfer leads the team in scoring with 12.9 PPG
  • Filer has scored in double figures in 16 of the 22 games in the season so far.
  • She leads the team in double-doubles this season with three.
