Women's Basketball Begins Two-Game Homestand Against UNI Friday Night

The Flames look to bounce back after loss to Missouri State last Saturday.

CHICAGO– The UIC women's basketball team (13-10, 5-7 MVC) is set to begin a weekend homestand when the team takes on UNI (15-6, 10-2 MVC) Friday night at Credit Union 1 Arena.
MATCHUP BREAKDOWN
•   UIC will face two opponents from the Hawkeye State this weekend, hosting UNI Friday and Drake Sunday.  
•   On Jan. 21, the Panthers defeated the Flames 79-44. UIC was held to 30% shooting throughout the game. They were led offensively by Ky Dempsey-Toney (15 points) and Danyel Middleton (10 points).
•  UNI's Grace Boffeli (15.9 PPG) and Maya McDermott (14.4 PPG) are among the top ten scorers in the Missouri Valley Conference.
•   The Panthers' two losses in conference play came on Jan. 26 against Missouri State (71-67) and Jan. 8 versus Belmont (67-61).
BEATEN BY THE BEARS
 
•   UIC completed their two-game road trip with a loss at Missouri State Saturday, 68-57.
•  The Flames had a strong first half, entering halftime with a five-point lead. In the second half, the Bears made up ground and outscored the Flames 36-21 to win.
•  The Flames were led offensively by Jaida McCloud, who scored 16 of her team-high 17 points in the first half and grabbed eight rebounds. Tiana Jackson scored a season-high nine points. 
 
SWEEPIN' THE BEACONS
  • UIC completed a regular season sweep against Valparaiso on Feb. 1, winning 55-53.
  • The Flames were led offensively by their front court of Jaida McCloud and Josie Filer. McCloud scored a team-high 19 points and grabbed five rebounds. Filer netted 16 points and was one rebound away from a double-double.
  • The Flames snapped a five-game road losing streak with the victory, dating back to Dec. 20, a one point loss to Southeast Missouri State.
JOSIE'S JOURNEY TO 1,000
  • Filer is only 70 points away from reaching 1,000 total points in her collegiate career.
  • In her first and lone season with the Flames, the graduate transfer leads the team in scoring with 12.7 PPG.
  • Filer has scored in double figures in 16 of the 23 games in the season so far.
  • She leads the team in double-doubles with three.
CONFERENCE STANDINGS
  • The Flames currently are in a three-way tie for sixth place in the Missouri Valley Conference. At 5-7, they are tied with Southern Illinois and Evansville.
  • The Flames face four of the top five teams in the conference (UNI (Feb. 10), Drake (Feb. 12), Illinois State Feb. 23), Belmont (Mar.2) over their final eight games of the regular season.
HOME SWEET HOME
  • In front of the home crowd, the Flames have played their best basketball, sporting a 7-3 record at Credit Union 1 Arena.
  • The Flames have home conference wins against Bradley, Evansville, Southern Illinois, and Valparaiso.
