Jace Carter named to All-Missouri Valley Conference Second Team

The sophomore led the Flames in points per game, steals and field goals made in 2022-23

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – UIC sophomore guard Jace Carter has been named to the 2023 All-Missouri Valley Conference Men's Basketball Team Second Team, as announced by the conference Wednesday night.
 
Carter is the second Flames men's basketball player to be named to an All-MVC Men's Basketball team this week. Sophomore Filip Skobalj was named to the MVC Men's Basketball Scholar-Athlete First Team Monday.
 
Starting in 29 games in 2022-23 for the Flames, the sophomore led UIC in points per game (16.7), minutes played per game (35.0), field goals made (165), steals (50) and free throws made (100). He also ranks in the top three on the team in blocks (22), rebounds per game (7.0), free throw percentage (.694) and three pointers made (53).
 
Carter also leads all Missouri Valley Conference players in steals and ranks in the top ten in the MVC in defensive rebounding (4th), scoring (6th) and minutes played (7th).
 
As a freshman in 2021-22, Carter started in 17 of 21 games played, averaged 8.1 points per game and was second on the team with 5.4 rebounds per game en route to being named to the Horizon League All-Freshman Team. The Titusville, Fla.-native attended Astronaut High School where he was named the 2020 Player of the Year by the Space Coast Daily and the Brevard Sports Network.
 
Carter and the No. 11 Flames (12-19, 4-16 MVC) will take on No. 6 Missouri State (16-14, 12-8 MVC) in the opening round of the 2023 State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Men's Basketball Tournament Thursday night at the Enterprise Center in St. Louis, Mo. The Flames and Bears will play the final game of Session 2, with tip-off scheduled for 8:30 p.m. CT.
