Women’s Basketball Final Homestand Set to Begin with Belmont Thursday Night

Flames remain tied for sixth place in the MVC standings heading into last week of conference play

CHICAGO – The UIC women's basketball team (16-13, 8-10 MVC) finish up Missouri Valley conference play this weekend at home, beginning with hosting Belmont (19-10, 15-3 MVC) Thursday night at the Credit Union 1 Arena. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. and will be available to stream on ESPN+.

MATCH UP BREAKDOWN
  • This will be the second time these programs have met on the hardwood. First time they've met was earlier this season on New Year's Day.
  • Belmont defeated UIC in that match-up, 72-59. The Flames were led offensively by Jaida McCloud, who scored 23 points on a career-high 15 made free throws. Josie Filer and Danyel Middleton each netted 10 points.
  • Belmont are in the midst of battling for the first-place seed in the MVC standings. They are tied with Illinois State (21-7, 15-3 MVC) heading into the last week of conference play.
  • Junior Destinee Wells is coming off a strong February with the Bruins. The two-time MVC Player of the Week in the last four weeks is the third best scorer in the Missouri Valley Conference, averaging 17.4 PPG.
SWEEPIN' THE BRAVES
  • UIC completed road conference play with a win over Bradley (3-26, 0-18) on Saturday, 64-38.
  • Ky Dempsey-Toney led the team offensively, scoring 17 points. Josie Filer secured her fifth double-double of the season, scoring 14 points and 10 rebounds.
  • Sara Zabrecky sank four three-pointers throughout the match-up for 12 points.
JOSIE AND JAIDA'S JOURNEY TO 1K
  • Josie Filer is nine points away from 1,000 careers point. In her lone season with the Flames, she leads the team in scoring (12.2 PPG) and rebounds (6.8 RPG).
  • Jaida McCloud is 17 points away from the same milestone. McCloud has led the team in scoring in over 12 games this season.
CONFERENCE STANDINGS
  • UIC remains tied for sixth place in the standings in the Missouri Valley Conference with Southern Illinois (11-16, 8-10) heading into Thursday night.
  • Southern Illinois will be on the road, taking on UNI (19-8, 14-4 MVC) Thursday at 6 p.m.
