Baseball Outlasts Wildcats in Home Opener Tuesday

Flames Capitalize on Northwestern's Mistakes in Four-Run Victory

CHICAGO - The UIC baseball team (5-6) opened its home schedule Tuesday night, hosting Northwestern (0-10) at Curtis Granderson stadium. On a brisk, chilly night, the Flames got ahead early, and didn't look back, earning their fifth win of the young season, defeating the Wildcats 10-6.

  • The Flames opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning, plating three runs to go on top 3-0.
  • Kade Lancour got the start for UIC, going two innings, giving up just one run.
  • Zak Gould tossed five innings in relief, and earned the victory.
  • The Flames capitalized on the Wildcats' mistakes throughout the night, as Northwestern would go on to make eight errors on the night.
  • Charlie Szykowny belted a solo home run in the Flames half of the seventh inning, putting UIC firmly in the lead at 10-5.
  • Tyler Ingram made a relief appearance in the top of the ninth inning, setting down the Wildcats in order to secure the 10-6 win for the Flames.

UIC's four-game series against St. Thomas scheduled for this weekend has been canceled due to inclement weather in the Chicago area. The Flames will be back in action Tuesday, as they welcome Milwaukee to Curtis Granderson Stadium before returning to the road for a three-game weekend series against SIUE.
