MOLINE, ILL. – The No. 6 UIC women's basketball program (17-14, 9-11 MVC) are set to compete in its very first Hoops in the Heartland Missouri Valley Conference Women's Basketball Championship Thursday night when they battle No. 11 Valparaiso (7-22, 5-15 MVC). This game will conclude session two with a scheduled tip-off at 8:30 CT at Vibrant Arena at THE MARK.
MATCHUP BREAKDOWN
- This will be the third time that UIC and Valparaiso will meet on the hardwood this season. The Flames swept conference play against the Beacons, 2-0.
- Each of these wins came down to a single possession game. On Jan. 11, the Flames won after a buzzer beating three-pointer from Josie Filer, 52-51. On Feb. 1, the Flames thwarted a last second comeback by the Beacons to win, 55-53.
- Filer has averaged 18.5 PPG and 8.5 RPG against the Beacons this season.
- The Flames finished off their season going .500 (3-3). They had wins over Indiana State, Bradley, and Murray State to finish off MVC play.
- Valparaiso split their last six games (3-3) with wins over Evansville, Indiana State and Bradley.
SCHEDULE AND TICKETS
- The Hoops in the Heartland schedule can be found here. If the Flames win, they'll compete against No. 3 UNI at 8:30 p.m. Friday in the MVC Women's Basketball Quarterfinals. That contest will stream on ESPN+.

TEAM SEND-OFF
- Approximately two hours before every game at the Tournament, fans are encouraged to gather in the lobby of the Hotel Blackhawk for a team send-off.
- Decked out in Flames gear, fans are invited to as they look to cheer UIC to victory.
- Fans will be joined by members of the UIC band and spirit squad in the pregame festivities.
- To remain in the loop, UIC fans are encouraged to follow the Flames on social media for updates on the team send-offs each day of the tournament.

- All opening round, quarterfinal and semifinal games at the 2023 Missouri Valley Conference Women's Basketball Tournament will be available to stream on ESPN+.
