NORMAL, Ill. – Despite the valiant effort, the UIC softball team (0-29, 0-7 MVC) couldn't get any runs across the board against Illinois State (15-15, 5-1 MVC), dropping Game One of the series, 2-0.
- Redshirt senior Maica Ingles began the game with a single up the middle. She has now landed hits in six of the last seven games.
- Junior Anna Walker hit a single to right field and is now tied for the team lead with 16 hits on the season. Walker also recorded her third steal of the season in Saturday's contest.
- Junior Miranda Gomez started her fourth game of the season at pitcher for the Flames. She pitched 3.1 innings, walking two and striking out one.
- Senior Christina Toniolo finished the game in relief, pitching 2.2 innings. She only allowed two hits and struck out one batter.
- Down 2-0 in the seventh, the Flames had an opportunity to put points on the board with the bases loaded, but were fended off by the Redbirds' defense.
The Flames return to Marian Kneer Stadium for a series ending doubleheader against the Redbirds Sunday. Game One is scheduled for 1 p.m. and Game Two will follow 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first game. Make sure to follow UIC softball on
