FRISCO, Texas – The Southland Conference awarded UIC senior
Aleksa Bucan with its Player of the Week honor on Tuesday for his impressive performance in conference play.
Bucan remains undefeated in conference action at No. 2 singles with a 5-0 record. He has defeated every conference opponent, including Tom Ciszewski of IUPUI (6-4, 6-4), Pascal Lorieul of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (5-7, 7-5, 6-0), Karim Al-Amin of New Orleans (6-2, 6-3), Ilian Borlee of Nicholls State (6-1, 6-3), Filippo Salsini of Lamar (6-3, 6-7 (3-7), 6-2), and Pietro Perego of Incarnate Word (6-3, 3-6, 6-3).
Bucan's last defeat was against Northwestern's nationally ranked Simen Bratholm on Feb. 26. Since then, the Belgrade, Serbia-native has maintained an eight-match winning streak, including easy victories of 6-3, 6-1 against DePaul and Xavier. He heads into the tournament with an overall record of 13-8.
Bucan will have an opportunity to extend his winning streak on Thursday as the No. 2 Flames face No. 7 Incarnate Word in the opening round of the 2023 Southland Conference Men's Tennis Championship.
