Baseball Breezes Past Huskies in Mid-Week Victory

Flames Take No-Hitter to Seventh, Power Past NIU

DEKALB, Ill. – The UIC baseball team closed out its brief, four-game road trip on Tuesday, as it traveled to Northern Illinois to close out the season series with the Huskies.
  • Zak Gould started the game for UIC, giving the Flames four solid innings, surrendering just one walk and striking out one.
  • UIC would score first in the contest, tallying five fourth innings runs, thanks in part to a two-run home run by Ryan Nagelbach, his fifth home run of the season. Carson Roberts also added a two-RBI single in the inning, his 31st RBI of the season.
  • The Huskies ended the Flames' no-hit bid in the bottom of the seventh inning, as a Colin Summerhill double through the right side of the infield put two in scoring position. The Huskies would only score one run in the inning, as Peter Newton came on in relief, stranding the bases loaded and keeping the score at 5-1.
  • The Flames added to their lead in the top of the eighth, as a Jackson Bessette RBI single and a Charlie Szykowny two-run home run extended the UIC lead to 8-1. Szykowny went a perfect five for five on the day, upping his batting average to .349 on the year.
  • The UIC bullpen surrendered just four hits and one run on the day, closing down the game for a final score of 8-1.
The Flames will open their longest home-stand of the season this weekend, as they host Bradley for a three-game series beginning on Friday night. First pitch from Curtis Granderson Stadium is set for 6:00 p.m. Friday. Friday's game will be radio only, with a free stream available via the Flames Network link on the schedule page.
