CHICAGO – The UIC men's basketball team announced three promotions among its coaching staff on Thursday, with three returning coaches assuming new roles beginning in 2023-24.

Former director of basketball operations
Ryan Kapustka has been moved into the role of assistant coach/director of scouting for the 2023-24 season. "I am very excited to have Ryan move from director of operations to director of scouting in our men's basketball program," commented head coach
Luke Yaklich. "Ryan has done a great job this past year in his role and has earned this promotion. This move coincides with his ability to assume on-court coaching responsibilities based on the new NCAA legislation, which allows a total of six coaches on the floor effective July 1st. I'm very excited about Ryan's ability to impact player development on & off the court moving forward!" Kapustka, a Grand Rapids, Mich. native, enters his second season in Chicago after spending four years with Rice University's men's basketball program.

Earning his second promotion in as many seasons,
Madison Williams has been elevated to an assistant coaching position for UIC for the 2023-24 season. "Madison has shown great personal growth each year and will now be one of our six on-the-court coaches starting this season," said Yaklich. "He will remain in his role as director of player personnel but will now have the opportunity to impact player development on the court, and we couldn't be prouder of his development on our staff." A native of Augusta, Georgia, Williams joined the Flames in 2021, reuniting with his collegiate coach from his days at Illinois State.

After a successful first season as a graduate manager, Bettendorf, Iowa native
Dylan Sortillo has been promoted to the director of basketball operations, effective for the 2023-24 season. "I am so excited to promote Dylan to director of operations," commented Yaklich. "He has served as a graduate assistant this past year and has done an incredible job executing his job responsibilities and also taking on numerous additional duties. His work ethic as well as his incredible organizational and communication skills will allow him to be an incredible asset for our players & staff." Sortillo, a 2018 graduate of NCAA Division III Augustana College, earned four letters for the Vikings, averaging nine points a game in 119 games played.
