CHICAGO (SEPT. 4, 2023) – The UIC volleyball team (5-1) will host Big Ten program Illinois (2-1) Tuesday night at Credit Union 1 Arena. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m.
BY THE NUMBERS
- After going 3-0 in The Chicago Classic, the Flames finished the UIC Invitational 2-1 this past weekend.
- Four out of the five wins this season for the Flames came in match sweeps against Oakland, Lindenwood, SIUE and UAB.
- Senior middle blocker Becca Oldendorf has been effective on the attack, landing .564% of her kills, ranking her first in the Missouri Valley Conference.
- The eight aces in the Flames' 3-0 sweep against SIUE Friday afternoon was a new season high for UIC. Senior libero Jaclyn Oblena led the way with four aces, tying a career high.
- Having already collected 72 kills, sophomore Ayat Amin has long surpassed her 42 kills from her entire freshman season. She now has 10-plus kills in five of UIC's six matches.
- Senior Zahria Woodard remains a staple of the Flames' defense and has recorded 28 blocking assists and five solo blocks this season. Her 33 blocks rank first in The Valley in the first two weeks of the season.
SCOUTING ILLINOIS
- The Fighting Illini are led by head coach Chris Tamas, who is entering his seventh season with the school. He currently holds an 118-68 (.634) record with a Final Four appearance in 2018.
- Illinois is currently 3-1 this season. Two of the teams' wins have come over fellow Missouri Valley Conference members Valparaiso and Illinois State.
- Senior outside hitter Raina Terry leads Illinois' attack and has 72 kills on the season. She has the third best kills per set (4.50) in the Big Ten.
- Redshirt sophomore Brooke Mosher has the third-best assists per set (9.56) in the Big Ten. She has 153 assists so far this season.
- In their lone match-up against the Fighting Illini, the Flames walked out with the five-set victory back on Sept. 15, 1982.
