CHICAGO (Jan. 18, 2024) – The UIC swimming and diving program jumps back into the pool at 6 p.m. (CT) Friday when the Flames travel across town to face the University of Chicago at the Gerald Ratner Athletic Center.

SCOUTING UCHICAGO
  • UIC holds a 4-2 series lead against the Maroons while the Flames' women's team is tied 3-3 all-time against UChicago. The UIC men last won over their crosstown foe on Jan. 25, 2020 (165-131), with the last series victory for the UIC women on Oct. 26, 2018 (178-121).
  • Senior Jesse Ssengonzi was the lone first-place finish for UChicago's men's team against Northwestern last Saturday (Jan. 13). He won the 100 fly, finishing in 46.50 seconds.
  • Freshman Lauren Richards collected second-place finishes in the 500 free (5:09.02) and 1,000 free (10:36.28) against the Wildcats in the same meet for the UChicago women's team.
 
LAST MEET OUT
  • The Flames were also slated to compete on Jan. 13, but their dual meet against Eastern Illinois at Flames Natatorium was canceled due to inclement weather in the Chicagoland area and associated travel considerations for the EIU program.
  • UIC last competed back on Dec. 20, 2023, during its annual training trip to Florida. They faced off against Rice, Old Dominion and Florida Atlantic in quad meet fashion.  It was a non-scored meet focused on the spirit of fun competition with student-athletes having the opportunity to compete and improve in the pool.
  • Sophomore Harrison Nolan (Riverside, Ill./Riverside Brookfield/Kentucky) remained dominant for the Flames, winning the three-meter (357.15 points) and one-meter (345.50 points) diving events.
  • Sophomore Kerry-Leigh Morrison (Gauteng, South Africa/St. Mary's School) collected two second-place finishes on the one-meter (240.68 points) and three-meter (264.15 points) diving boards.
  • Freshman Molly Kroeger (Easton, Md./Easton) finished first in the 500 free in 5:07.02.
  • Senior Ben Ramminger (Deforest, Wis./Deforest Area) followed up a second-place tie in the 50 breast (26.67) with a win in the 100 reverse individual medley.
  • The team of Kroeger, junior Kendra Preski (Springfield, Ill./Colorado State), sophomore Madison Helmick (Bingham Farms, Mich./Birmingham Groves, and senior Jessica Phillips (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) placed second in the women's 300 free relay with a time of 2:36.07.
  • The 400 men's medley relay team of Ramminger, freshman James McCarthy (Minnetonka, Minn./DeLaSalle), and seniors Liam Davis (Naperville, Ill./Plainfield North) and Alex Dvorak (Naperville, Ill./Plainfield North) placed second with a time of 3:39.15.
