Men’s Tennis Blanks North Dakota in Home Opener

The Flames move to 1-2 on the season following their 7-0 victory over the Fighting Hawks

CHICAGO (Jan. 28, 2023) - A dominant performance from start to finish propelled the UIC men's tennis program (1-2) past North Dakota (0-5) in its home opener, as the Flames blanked the Fighting Hawks 7-0 Sunday morning at the XS Tennis Village.

The victory marked UIC's first win of the 2024 season. COMMENT FROM HEAD COACH JOVAN PARLIC

"This morning's victory was a great performance from our program. We tried to be in the same position as last match and today we were able to play better at the end of the sets and I'm very pleased with how the team competed. I would like to thank everyone that came out to the XS Tennis Village for our early Sunday match. Our program is extremely appreciative for your support."

MATCH RECAP
  • The Flames won the doubles point for the second week in a row behind wins by the No. 1 pair of Randy Wilson (Miami, Fla./Florida Gulf Coast) and Mihailo Savic (Smederevska Palanka, Serbia/Sportska Gimnazija) and the No. 3 tandem of Robinson Le Meur (Evreux, France/Sciences Po Bordeaux) and Aleksa Bucan (Belgrade, Serbia/Arkansas). UIC's No. 3 doubles pair of Gustavo Schwebel (Salvador, Brazil/Colegio Antonio Vieira) and Edoardo Bottino (Genoa, Italy/Queens University) had a 4-3 lead in their match, but it didn't finish due to UIC already winning the doubles point.
  • UIC dominated in singles competition, winning all six of the matches. Five of UIC's wins came in straight sets.
  • Wilson won at No. 1 singles for his second singles win in a row, while Bucan and Bottino both recorded their second singles victories of the season.
  • LeMeur, Savic and Schwebel's victories were each their first of the 2024 season. Both LeMeur and Savic's wins were their first collegiate singles victories.
