CHICAGO (Oct. 29, 2024) – The UIC women's basketball team were victorious Tuesday night in an exhibition against Roosevelt in front of a home crowd at Credit Union 1 Arena, 58-52.
After the Lakers took an eight-point lead in the first quarter, the Flames found themselves returning to their offensive groove. An 8-0 run early in the second quarter forced Roosevelt to a timeout, all tied up 17-17 with 6:51 left on the clock. Big shots made from graduate student
Keimari Rimmer (Chicago, Ill./Proviso East/DePaul),
Jaida McCloud (Peoria, Ill./Richwoods) and a closing seconds lay-up from senior
Sandra Frau Gracia (Pego, Spain/ Casper College) pushed the Flames to a 32-22 lead heading into halftime.
While the Lakers regained the momentum opening the second half, the Flames held onto a one-point lead entering the final quarter of play. Both teams battled point-for-point in the fourth quarter, but the Flames' work from the charity stripe kept UIC ahead until the final buzzer sounded.
The Flames start their 2024-25 season next Tuesday, when they host Big 12's Cincinnati for a 7 p.m. (CT) tip-off at Credit Union 1 Arena. The game will be available to stream on ESPN+ and can be listened to on the
