SCOUTING NORTHERN IOWA
- The Flames and Panthers are set to meet for the 17th time on the volleyball court. UIC aims to break a six-match streak for Northern Iowa, looking for its first win since its five-set victory at the All-American Classic in Indianapolis, Ind.
- The Panthers punched their ticket into the championship game after a sweep against #4 Illinois State (16-15, 11-7 MVC) early Monday afternoon. Senior Kira Fallert tallied a team-leading 13 kills and six service aces in the win, and graduate student Kacie Rewerts contributed nine kills.
- The Panthers are in search of their third consecutive MVC title and their 20th conference title in the Valley. The Flames are fighting for their third conference championship and their first title since 2021.
- Northern Iowa has 41 consecutive wins against conference opponents, last losing in a regular season finale to Drake in the 2022 season.
FLAMES PUNCH TICKET TO CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH AFTER SWEEP OF #2 DRAKE
- The Flames' attack couldn't be stopped Monday night when they swept #2 Drake (20-10, 16-2 MVC) in the semifinals of the conference tournament.
- Freshman Antonie Kelnárová (Prague, Czech Republic) led the attack with 15 kills and five digs in the victory.
- Junior Cleo Lorenzo (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/Elite) collected 11 kills and eight digs. Senior Kayanna Jones (Normal, Ill./Normal) collected eight kills.
- At 23-9 overall, the Flames have tied the most wins since the 1988 (23-17). 21 wins is also the most wins in head coach Justin Ingram's tenure at UIC, surpassing the 22-10 mark in the 2022 season.
- The volleyball team's run to the championship is the first for UIC since joining The Valley in Jully 2022.
