Women’s Basketball Gears Up for Midweek Match-Up Against Northern Illinois Wednesday

Flames travel to DeKalb to face off against Huskies before the Thanksgiving holiday.

DEKALB, Ill. (Nov. 26, 2024) – The UIC women's basketball team (0-3) travels west down the I-88 freeway to face off against Northern Illinois (3-2) in non-conference action Wednesday Night at NIU's Convocation Center for a 6 p.m. (CT) tip-off.

SCOUTING NORTHERN ILLINOIS
 
  • This will be the 46th time these programs are set to battle it out on the hardwood. Although Northern Illinois holds an 25-20 lead on the overall series, UIC has maintained a six-game winning streak dating back to Nov. 30, 2010.
  • In their last meeting, UIC fended off Northern Illinois to a 71-56 victory in the final day of the 2023 Women's Basketball Invitational in on March 18, 2023. Graduate student Jaida McCloud (Peoria, Ill./Richwoods) scored 16 points and grabbed seven rebounds in 32 minutes of play. Graduate student Kristian Young (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence North) also netted 13 points in the win.
  • The Huskies are coming off a strong week with wins over Chicago State (77-68) on Nov. 20 and a 67-60 victory against Milwaukee this past Sunday.  
  • Junior guard Alecia Doyle had a strong offensive showing across the Huskies wins, scoring 21 points on the Cougars before netting 17 points against the Panthers. She is second on the team this season in points per game for the Huskies, averaging 14.3 ppg.
 
WISCONSIN RECAP
 
  • The Flames opened up their three-game road trip in Madison, Wis. last Thursday against Wisconsin (4-1), falling short in a 61-57 effort in front of the road crowd at the Kohl Center.
  • Senior guard Krystyna Ellew (Chicago, Ill./Taft/Wisconsin) nearly shot perfect from the field against her former teammates. She sank all six of her shots, including a pair of three pointers and went 80 % from the free throw line to finish with 18 points. That is her best offensive showing since joining UIC a season ago, surpassing her 13-point performance against Belmont on March 11.
  • McCloud scored 12 points and grabbed seven rebounds in 28 minutes on the floor. Senior Makiyah Williams (Chicago, Ill./Trinity/Marquette) netted eight points and six rebounds.
  • After sinking only six shots in the first half, the Flames nearly mounted a second half comeback, outscoring the Badgers 41-36 with a 51% field goal percentage.
  • The Flames also tallied 11 steals across the 40 minutes of play. Every player logged at least one steal in the game, with Ellew and Williams leading with two steals a piece.
