Volleyball Sets Sights on Iowa Road Trip this weekend.

Flames gear up to face off against Northern Iowa and Drake.

CHICAGO (Nov. 7, 2024) The UIC volleyball team (18-7, 10-3 MVC) will continue its two-week road trip this weekend, looking to finish strong against two of the top teams in the Missouri Valley Conference.
 
The Flames will face off against undefeated conference leader Northern Iowa (18-7, 13-0 MVC) and second-place Drake (16-8, 12-1 MVC) in crucial matchups that will impact the MVC standings with postseason play a few weeks away.

LAST TIME OUT VS. NORTHERN IOWA
 
  • The Flames fell to UNI in three sets in front of a home crowd at Credit Union 1 Arena on Oct. 5.
  • Junior Cleo Lorenzo (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/Elite) was the Flames kill leader in this match tallying eight.
  • Graduate student Zahria Woodard (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park and River Forest) contributed five blocks on the night.
 
LAST TIME OUT VS. DRAKE
 
  • In a hard fought match the Bulldogs defeated the Flames three sets to one.
  • Junior duo of Lorenzo and Ayat Amin (Cairo, Egypt/Al Waha International School) had big nights on the attack. Lorenzo finished with sixteen kills, and Amin recorded a dozen kills of her own .
  • Fellow junior Francesca Venturini (Bergamo, Italy/Liceo Classico Paolo Sarpi) led the Flames from the service line with a pair of aces.
 
LAST WEEKEND RECAP - SOUTHERN ILLINOIS/MISSOURI STATE
 
  • The Flames had a successful weekend of conference play, recording two wins over Southern Illinois (10-14, 3-10 MVC) and Missouri State (10-15, 3-7 MVC).
  • Junior Lorenzo and freshman Antonie Kelnárová (Prague, Czech Republic) co-led the attack with nine kills apiece against the Salukis Friday night.
  • The Flames came back from 2-0 deficit Saturday against the Bears to win in five sets, with four Flames collecting double digit kills; Kelnárová ) tallied 14 kills, sophomore Gabi Peter (Gilbert, Ill./Hampshire) collected 13 kills, graduate student Zahria Woodard (Oak Park, Ill./ Oak Park and River Forest) contributed a dozen, and senior Kayanna Jones (Normal, Ill./Normal West) collected 11 kills and five blocks in the win.
