SUGARLAND, TEXAS (Feb. 24, 2024) – The UIC baseball team continued play in the 2024 Sugarland College Classic Saturday, as the Flames faced off against host institution Houston Christian. After falling behind early in the game, the Flames showed tremendous resilience, fighting back on two separate occasions to earn a 10-7 victory.

SCORING SUMMARY
- The Huskies jumped out to an early advantage in the top of the third inning, as they plated two runs on a fielding error before adding a third run on a double down the line to take a 3-0 lead.
- UIC wasted no time drawing level in the game, as Carson Roberts (Winfield, Ill./College of DuPage) launched his first home run of the season in the bottom of the third, a two-run shot to right field. Kendall Ewell (Calumet City, Ill./Kentucky) tallied his fifth RBI of the season on a double to right-center field to pull the game level at 3-3.
- After the Huskies re-established a three-run advantage in the fourth inning, Ewell narrowed the gap in his next at-bat, tallying his first home run of the season to bring the Flames within two at 6-4 after five full innings.
- One inning later, the Flames pushed across five more runs, highlighted by a pair of two-RBI doubles from Zane Zielinski (Chicago, Ill./Northeast CC) and Rayth Petersen (Barrington, Ill./Morton College) to go ahead 9-6.
- The Huskies would answer back with a solo home run in the top of the eighth, but the Flames would hold on to secure a win by a final score of , including an insurance run on AJ Taylor (Downers Grove, Ill./College of DuPage)'s first RBI of the season on an eighth inning single.
