Men’s Tennis Drops Conference Contest Against Northern Illinois

The Flames fall 7-0 to the Huskies Saturday afternoon at the Flames Outdoor Tennis Courts

CHICAGO (March 16, 2024) – Competing in windy conditions, the UIC men's tennis program (8-6, 0-3 MAC) dropped its first home contest of the season, falling 7-0 to Northern Illinois (13-3, 2-1 MAC) Saturday afternoon at the Flames Outdoor Tennis Courts.

MATCH RECAP
  • The Huskies swept the doubles matches to clinch the doubles point.
  • In singles competition, NIU came away victories in all six matches. For the Flames, senior Gustavo Schwebel (Salvador, Brazil/Colegio Antonio Vieira) won the first set against his Huskies opponent at No. 5 singles, but ultimately fell in his match in three sets.
  • UIC is now 5-1 in home competitions this season. Saturday's match was UIC's second home outdoor match in 2024.

UP NEXT
  • The UIC men's tennis program back in action Friday afternoon, as the Flames host Toledo at noon at either the XS Tennis Village or Flames Tennis Courts.
  • The Rockets are 7-7 on the season and 2-0 in MAC play.
  • Last season the Rockets won the Mid-American Conference Championships to secure the conference's automatic bid in the 2023 NCAA Tournament.
  • Over the last 20 years, the two programs have faced each other three times, with Toledo winning all of the previous contests.
