Men’s Tennis Narrowly Defeated by Toledo

The Flames won the doubles point and two singles matches in Friday’s 4-3 loss to the Rockets

CHICAGO (March 22, 2024) – The UIC men's tennis program (8-7, 0-4 MAC) fell in a close 4-3 contest Friday afternoon to MAC foe Toledo (8-8, 3-1 MAC) at the XS Tennis Village.
 
The Flames won two doubles matches to clinch the doubles point, while senior Randy Wilson (Miami, Fla. / Florida Gulf Coast) and sophomore Robinson Le Meur (Evreux, France/Sciences Po Bordeaux) were victories in singles matches for the Flames in Friday's loss.

"We played great today but came out just short at the end. There is a lot of tennis still to be played this season so we are looking to keep getting better each time we compete."
 
MATCH RECAP
  • In doubles competition, UIC's No. 2 team of Gustavo Schwebel (Salvador, Brazil/Colegio Antonio Vieira) and Edoardo Bottino (Genoa, Italy/Queens University) and the No. 3 pair of Aleksa Bucan (Belgrade, Serbia/Arkansas) and Le Meur came away with 6-2 victories against their Toledo counterparts. With Friday's win Bucan and Le Meur move to 9-1 on the season and 9-0 at the No. 3 doubles spot.
  • In singles action, Wilson made quick work of his opponent at No. 1 singles, winning in straight-sets.
  • At No. 3 singles, Le Meur won his ninth match of the season, defeating Toldeo's Adam Kovac in three sets.
  • The Rockets would win the other four singles matches to secure the team victory.

UP NEXT
  • The Flames host Buffalo in a conference showdown Sunday afternoon at 12 p.m. at the XS Tennis Village.
  • The Bulls are 4-8 in 2024 and remain winless in conference competitions.
  • Buffalo has lost four-straight matches, with its last win coming on March 2. The program is 2-4 in away competitions this season.
  • Sophomore Theodoros Mitsakos leads Buffalo with six singles wins this season, competing at the Nos. 3 and 4 positions.
