PROSPECT, Ky. (March 19, 2024) – It was a program-defining day on the golf course for the UIC Flames. For the first time in program history, UIC finished on top of the leaderboard in both the team and individual standings, as graduate student Dasa Urbankova (Brno, Czech Republic/Menlo College) won her program-record third individual title of the season, while the Flames finished as co-champions in the team standings at the Nevel Meade Intercollegiate, held at the Nevel Meade Golf Club in Prospect, Ky.

Competing in cold conditions Monday and Tuesday, the Flames cut seven strokes off co-champion Oakland's Day One lead to clinch a share of the team trophy. The co-team title is UIC's first team championship at a full-field tournament in program history. UIC won the three-team Chitown Classic crown in Aug. 2015.

In the individual competition, Urbankova dominated on both days of the 36-hole tournament, and held on to her Day One lead to cruise to a five-stroke victory in the more than 60-person field.

COMMENT FROM HEAD COACH ANGELA RAYHILL

"I'm so proud of our program on how they performed this week. The weather was a big factor and the team fought right through it. It's a testament to their hard work they have been putting in both at practice and in competition. Watching all of our student-athletes prepare and execute this week was amazing. I'm speechless regarding Dasa's performance; to win her third individual title of the season shows how talented she is. She sets the pace for the team and I am so proud of her. We are going to enjoy this moment of winning our first co-championship in program history but we are ready to get back to work as we train for our next tournament."

COMMENT FROM GRADUATE STUDENT DASA URBANKOVA

"I'm extremely proud of our team and the way we competed. It was such a grind out on the course, playing in 25-degree temperature with 35 mph wind and snow and we battled the relentless conditions both days. I can't express how happy I am to finish this invitational with a individual title. We've been so close as a team to winning a team title all season, and we knew it was just a matter of time until we accomplished this feat. I believe this team title is the first of many to come for our program."
