ST. LOUIS (March 20, 2024) – For the second time this season, the Missouri Valley Conference has named UIC women's tennis senior Agnes Gustafsson (Paris, France/Akademi Båstad Gymnasium) its Singles Player of the Week.

This is Gustafsson's fifth time receiving the weekly honor from the MVC in her career.

"I feel extremely happy and honored to have been named MVC Singles Player of the Week for the second time this season," Gustafsson said. "This honor meant a lot to me because I won against an opponent from a Big Ten school. We're ready for our match against Oral Roberts Thursday and our first MVC competition against Drake this weekend."

Gustafsson is receiving the weekly award after a strong performance at No. 1 singles last Friday against Rutgers' Tara Chilton. The senior won her match in straight-sets (6-4, 6-1) against her Big Ten counterpart to win one of two singles points for the Flames. Rutgers was ranked No. 75 in last week's ITA team rankings.

"We're super excited for Agnes to be named MVC Singles Player of the Week again," said head coach Elizabeth Lumpkin Robinson. "She works so hard on and off the court and is a leader on and off the court and we're excited for her to have great success in her competitions against Oral Roberts and Drake this week. She played a really tough opponent against Rutgers last week and I know her win and the momentum she built will help carry her through her competitions this week."

Gustafsson and the Flames conclude non-conference competition Thursday morning when they host Oral Roberts at 10 a.m. at the XS Tennis Village. UIC opens Missouri Valley Conference play Sunday at 12 pm at home against reigning conference champion Drake.
