CLEVELAND (March 26, 2024) – Following his undefeated week in No. 1 singles competition, the Mid-American Conference named UIC senior
Randy Wilson (Miami, Fla. / Florida Gulf Coast) its Men's Tennis Singles Player of the Week Tuesday afternoon.
Wilson defeated Toledo's Marko Galic 7-6 (7-5), 6-1 and Buffalo's Artem Alekseychuk 6-3, 6-3 to go 2-0 in UIC's two conference matches last week. The senior has eight singles victories, all at the No. 1 position, this season.
"I'm very pleased to be named the MAC Singles Player of the Week," said Wilson. "We had two very challenging matches against Toledo and Buffalo and we have a lot of work we still need to do to achieve our goal of winning the conference."
Wilson is the third men's tennis student-athlete to be named Singles Player of the Week this spring. Senior
Aleksa Bucan (Belgrade, Serbia/Arkansas) and sophomore
Robinson Le Meur (Evreux, France/Sciences Po Bordeaux) received the honor in February.
"I'm super proud of Randy and how he competed this weekend," said head coach
Jovan Parlic. "He is doing great things on the court for us at the top of the lineup. I would also like to give a shoutout to assistant coach
Nico Rousset who has been a great resource helping Randy this entire year."
Wilson and the Flames are off until Saturday when they travel to DeKalb, Ill. to face MAC foe Northern Illinois. Saturday's contest will start at 1 p.m. at the Nelson Tennis Center at Chick Evans Field House.
