SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (April 12, 2024) – The UIC baseball team (22-11, 7-5 MVC) closed out its three-game weekend series against Missouri State (16-18, 4-8 MVC) on Saturday, as the two met for the rubber match looking for the series victory. The Flames took a lead early on, surrendered it back to the Bears in the middle frames, and came charging back late, earning the series victory with a thrilling 9-8 victory.

GAME SUMMARY
- The Flames wasted no time jumping out to an early lead in Saturday's finale, as Zane Zielinski launched his sixth home run of the season on the game's first pitch, giving UIC the earliest possible 1-0 lead. Ryan Nagelbach added an RBI double to give the Flames a 2-0 advantage.

- The Bears took over the middle frames of the game, building a 7-2 lead by the bottom of the fifth.
- UIC began the comeback trail in the seventh, as Zielinski drove in his second run of the game with a sacrifice fly to pull the Flames within four at 7-3 going into the eighth.
- The Flames struck for six runs in the top half of the eighth inning, re-establishing the lead at 9-7 thanks to four RBI singles, highlighted by a two-RBI single up the middle by Nagelbach to grab the lead back.

- Missouri State added a solo home run in the ninth, but Ryan Smith came on with a runner on first and two outs in the ninth and got a ground ball fielder's choice to end the game and give the Flames their seventh MVC victory by a final score of 9-8.

The Flames will travel back to Chicago this weekend before returning to the road on Tuesday, as they will be in Wisconsin for a battle against Milwaukee. First pitch from Franklin Field is set for 3:00 p.m. CT, and can be seen live on ESPN+.
