Men’s Tennis Drops Regular Season Finale to Ball State, 4-3

The Flames won three singles matches in Sunday’s loss to the Cardinals

Box Score CHICAGO (April 14, 2024) – The UIC men's tennis program (10-11, 2-8 MAC) concluded its regular season with a close 4-3 loss against Ball State (12-9, 6-4 MAC) Sunday afternoon at the Flames Outdoor Tennis Center.
 
The Flames won three singles matches in Sunday's loss, with wins at the No. 2, 3 and 4 positions. Seniors Aleksa Bucan (Belgrade, Serbia/Arkansas) and Edoardo Bottino (Genoa, Italy/Queens University) earned victories in their final collegiate matches for the Flames.


 
UIC concludes 2024 at 10-11 overall with a 2-8 record in conference play. This season marked the Flames' first as an affiliate member of the Missouri Valley Conference.

MATCH RECAP
  • In doubles competition, UIC's No. 1 pair of and Randy Wilson (Miami, Fla./Florida Gulf Coast) and Mihailo Savic (Smederevska Palanka, Serbia/Sportska Gimnazija) came away with the 6-4 victory. The Nos. 2 and 3 doubles matches were both decided via tiebreak, with Ball State winning both competitions to secure the doubles point.


  • At No. 3 singles, Bucan made quick work of his opponent, winning his match in straight sets. The senior finished the year with 12 victories and was perfect at the No. 3 singles spot with a 3-0 record.
  • After dropping his first set at No. 2 singles, Robinson Le Meur (Evreux, France/Sciences Po Bordeaux) won the next two sets to come away with the three-set victory. The win was Le Meur's program-leading 13th victory of the season and his third of the year at the No. 2 singles spot.
  • Competing at No. 4 singles, Bottino won in straight sets for his tenth victory of the season.
  • The Cardinals won the other three singles matches to come away with the 4-3 victory over the Flames.
