CHICAGO (Apr. 25, 2024) – The No. 3 UIC women's tennis program starts its quest for the Missouri Valley Conference crown Friday afternoon, as the Flames face No. 6 Missouri State in the quarterfinals of the 2024 MVC Women's Tennis Championship.
Friday's match will start at 2 p.m. and take place at the at the Beaman Family Tennis Complex. Live stats for Friday's match can be found

SCOUTING MISSOURI STATE
- Missouri State finished the 2024 season with a 13-9 overall record and a 4-4 record in conference play.
- In their regular season meeting, the Flames fell to the Bears 4-3 (April 13).
- The two programs have split their two prior all-time matches, with each program winning its home contest. Friday's match will be the first time the two teams have faced in the MVC Championship.
- If UIC wins Friday's match, the team will play No. 2 Illinois State Saturday at 5 pm. CT.

MVC ANNOUNCES SCHOLAR-ATHLETE SELECTIONS
- The Missouri Valley Conference named three UIC women's tennis student-athletes to its Scholar-Athlete teams Thursday afternoon.
- The conference selected seniors Agnes Gustafsson (Paris, France/Akademi Båstad Gymnasium) and Tamara Malazonia (Birmingham, United Kingdom/St. Paul's School for Girls), while the MVC named senior Zara Ryan (Dublin, Ireland/Utah State) to its Honorable Mention team.
- Gustafsson and Malazonia were two of the nine student-athletes named to the First Team, while Ryan was one of seven student-athletes selected to the Honorable Mention team. The Flames were one of six programs to have three or more student-athletes selected to an MVC Scholar-Athlete team and were one of three schools to have multiple first-team selections.
- This is Gustafsson's second year in a row being named to an MVC Scholar-Athlete team. She was named Honorable Mention last season. 2024 marks Malazonia and Ryan's first selection to an MVC Scholar-Athlete teams.
NEWS AND NOTES
- UIC has won the doubles point in every conference competition this season.
- Six of UIC's seven student-athletes have three or more conference victories this season.
- Friday's contest will be UIC's second match of the season at a neutral site. The Flames competed against Wyoming in Bowling Green, Ky. in late February.
- UIC is coming off a 4-3 victory against Valparaiso in its regular season finale. Junior Camille Belberka (Saint-Denis-lès-Bourg, France Seward County Community College (Kan.) secured the victory for the Flames will a thrilling three-set win at the No. 4 singles position.
