CHICAGO (April 26, 2024) – The UIC baseball team (26-12, 10-6 MVC) opened a three-game series against Valparaiso (12-27, 4-12 MVC) on Friday, as the two met for a noon CT first pitch. After falling behind early, the Flames stormed back and tallied double digit hits to earn a 8-6 victory, their fourth in a row.

GAME SUMMARY
- The Beacons got off to a quick start on Friday afternoon, striking for a run off starting pitcher Dillon Schueler (Rock Falls, Ill./Rock Falls) in the top of the second inning on a solo home run, giving Valparaiso the 1-0 lead early.
- UIC answered back in the bottom of the third, as Kendal Ewell (Calumet City, Ill./Kentucky) drove home a run with a bases-loaded sacrifice fly.

- The Flames took the lead an inning later, as Jackson Bessette (Bartlett, Ill./South Elgin) drove home AJ Taylor (Downers Grove, Ill./College of DuPage) to give UIC the 2-1 advantage. Ryan Nagelbach (Deerfield, Ill./Deerfield) extended the Flames' lead in the bottom of the fifth, driving home a run with a two-out single.

- The Flames added two more runs in the fifth on a wild pitch and throwing error from the Beacons relief pitcher Jake Jakubowski.

- UIC expanded its lead an inning later, plating two runs thanks to an RBI single from Vidal Colon (Grafton, Wis./University School of Milwaukee) and an RBI double from Zane Zielinski (Chicago, Ill./Northeast CC) to extend the advantage to 7-2.
- Schueler pitched seven and 1/3 innings, surrendering just four earned runs on six hits, and striking out seven.
- The Beacons pulled to within one run in the eighth inning, narrowing the gap to 7-6. The Flames got an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth inning on a Ewell fielder's choice, and Reece Lawler (Gurnee, Ill./Iowa) earned his eighth save of the season in a four-out effort, with the Flames securing the 8-6 victory.
