Golf Records Top-Ten Finish at Golfweek/AGT Intercollegiate

PAWLEY'S ISLAND, S.C. (April 3, 2024) – The UIC golf program concluded its final event prior to the 2024 Missouri Valley Women's Golf Championship with its eighth top-ten performance of the season, as the Flames finished tied-10th in the team standing at the Golfweek/AGT Intercollegiate, held at the Caledonia Golf & Fish Club. Senior Megan Tang (Memphis, Tenn./St. Mary's) led the Flames in the individual standings, tying for 14th place in the 104-person field.
 
Tournament officials canceled Wednesday's third round before completion due to stormy weather conditions. Final standings were determined based on the results following the first 36-holes of competition.  
 
UIC's 36-hole total of 598 is the Flames' third-lowest 36-hole total in program history the team's lowest 36-hole total during the 2023-24 season.

"Due to the weather, the final round of the tournament got canceled. Our team was grinding out there in the rain and were playing well and moving up the leaderboard. Overall, it was a great finish for the team as we prepare for the upcoming MVC Championship."
 
GOLFWEEK/AGT INTERCOLLEGIATE RECAP
  • The Flames opened Monday's first round, shooting a team score of 303 (+19). Six UIC golfers shot +8 or better during the opening round. UIC cut eight strokes off its team score during the second round Tuesday, shooting 295 (+11), while moving up one place in the individual standings.
  • Tang shot the two of the three lowest rounds for the Flames in South Carolina, shooting a +3 (74) and +1 (72) to finished in the top-15 in the individual standings for the sixth time this season.
  • After shooting +7 (78) during Monday's opening round, graduate student Dasa Urbankova (Brno, Czech Republic/Menlo College) shot even (71) during the second round to move up 30 spots on the leaderboard. The graduate student was poised for an even bigger jump during Wednesday's third round before play stopped.
  • Senior Brooke Beyer (Mesa, Ariz./Desert Ridge) shot consistently between Round One (+4, 75) and Round Two (+5, 76) to finish tied-44th in the individual standings, while senior Grace Szklarek (Granger, Ind./Penn) shot +13 (155) in the team standings to finish tied-68th.
  • Competing as an individual, junior Lia Thomas (Michigan City, Ind./Michigan City) shot identical scores of +6 (77) both days to finish tied-62nd, while sophomore Ellie McDonald (Indianapolis, Ind./Heritage Christian) finished in 104th, shooting +45 (187)
  • The Flames finished the 19-team tournament tied with Ohio University for tenth-place in the team standings.
NEWS AND NOTES
  • Tang's 36-hole total of 146 (+4) is tied for the third-lowest 36-hole total in program history and ties her career-best alongside 2022's Golfweek Fall Challenge.
  • Urbankova's second round score of 71 is tied for the fourth-lowest round in program history. Tuesday's round was her eighth round under 72 this season.
  • The graduate student's 36-hole score of 149 (+7) is tied for the seventh-lowest score in program history.
  • The Flames' second round team score of 295 (+11) is the seventh-lowest round and seventh-lowest round versus par in program history and their fourth-lowest of the 2023-24 season.
  • With 22 rounds played this season, Urbankova, Beyer and Szklarek rank tied-third in program history for rounds played in a season.
  • The Flames combined for 22 birdies as a program. Urbankova, Tang and Thomas tied for a team-high four birdies.
  • UIC was one of two Missouri Valley Conference programs competing at the event and finished the highest among all MVC schools in the team standings.

  • The Flames are back on the golf course in less than two weeks when the program competes at the 2024 Missouri Valley Conference Women's Golf Championship.
  • The three-day event runs from April 14-16 at Annbriar Golf Course in Waterloo, Ill.
