CHICAGO (May 12, 2024) – The UIC baseball team (32-16, 15-9 MVC) closed out its home regular season schedule Sunday, as it hosted Illinois State (26-23, 14-10 MVC) on Senior Day and Mother's Day at Les Miller Field at Curtis Granderson Stadium. The Flames fell behind early and were unable to keep pace with the Redbirds offensively, dropping the series finale by a 16-3 final score in seven innings.
GAME SUMMARY
- For the second time in three games this series, the Redbirds took an early lead in the top of the first inning, striking for four runs to take an early advantage.
- The Flames answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second, thanks in part to an RBI double from Ryan Nagelbach (Deerfield, Ill./Deerfield).

- Jackson Bessette launched his eighth home run of the season and second of the series in the fourth inning, bringing the score to 7-3 at the time.

- The Redbirds went on to run away with the game in the next several innings, beating the Flames in seven innings by a final score of 16-3.

UIC will head out on the road for its remaining four regular season games, beginning with a Tuesday night visit to Iowa City to take on the Hawkeyes to close out the non-conference slate. The Flames will then go straight to Evansville to begin a three-game series with the Aces beginning Thursday evening.
