EVANSVILLE, Ind. (May 16, 2024) – The UIC baseball team (33-16, 16-9 MVC) opened up a three-game series against Evansville (29-23, 15-10 MVC) Thursday night, as the Flames and Aces entered the night tied for second in the Missouri Valley Conference standings. In exciting, come-back fashion, the Flames took an extra innings victory and snatched sole possession of second place in the MVC standings.

GAME SUMMARY
- After some dominant pitching to start the game, the Aces opened the scoring in the bottom of the third inning, as a double down the left field line brought home the game's first run before starter Dillon Schueler (Rock Falls, Ill./Sauk Valley CC) stranded two runners in scoring position that reached with no outs in the inning.

- The Flames wasted no time answering the Aces opening run, plating a pair of runs in the top of the fourth on three consecutive hits, including an RBI double from Pambos Nicoloudes (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central).

- The Aces took the lead back in the bottom of the fifth, pushing a pair of runs across to take a 3-2 advantage, and adding a run in the sixth to double up the Flames at 4-2.
- The UIC bats went quiet in the later stages of the game, managing just three hits in the first eight innings. Needing two runs in the top of the ninth, the Flames rallied for three hits and pushed two runs in to tie the ballgame, as Rayth Petersen (Barrington, Ill./Morton College) notched his first hit of the game, an RBI single to tie the game at 4-4.

- Zack Millsap (Crete, Ill./Kankakee CC) got the game into extra innings, going an inning and 2/3 without giving up a run.
- In the top of the 10th inning, Jackson Bessette (Bartlett, Ill./South Elgin) drove in the eventual winning run on an RBI double to deep right field.

- Reece Lawler (Gurnee, Ill./Iowa) earned his 12th save of the season in the bottom of the 10th, taking sole possession of third place in the NCAA.
