CHICAGO (May 24, 2024) – The 2024-25 UIC men's basketball roster continued to draw closer to fruition on Friday, as head coach
Rob Ehsan announced junior guard
Jordan Mason (San Antonio, Texas/Clark/Texas State) will enroll at the University and suit up for the Flames beginning next season.
Mason is the second Texan and the ninth newcomer to sign with UIC since Ehsan took the reins last month, a group that includes six other NCAA Division I transfers — sophomore forward
Saša Ciani (Nova Gorica, Slovenia/Koder School/Xavier), graduate student guard
Tyem Freeman (Springfield, Mo./Hillcrest/UCF/Kent State), sophomore guard
Ahmad Henderson II (Chicago, Ill./Brother Rice/Niagara), junior guard
Javon Jackson (Houston, Texas/C.E. King/Utah State), redshirt senior forward
Modestas Kancleris (Kaunas, Lithuania/Varpas Gimnazija/Creighton/Cal State Bakersfield) and graduate student guard
Joshua Reaves (Hamden, Conn./South Kent School/Mount St. Mary's). They will be joined by a pair of high school standouts in guard
Carlos Harris (Chicago, Ill./Curie) and forward
Jayce Nathaniel (Buford, Ga./AZ Compass Prep).
"Jordan is a very talented combo guard who was among Texas State's leaders in scoring and assists last season," Ehsan said. "He's also a versatile defender who uses his size and length to disrupt opposing offenses. Jordan is a high upside player who comes from an athletic family with Chicagoland ties and we're excited to work with him and help develop his game even further here at UIC."
Mason, a 6-foot-4, 175-pound guard, was a standout in the backcourt at Texas State University for the past two seasons, playing in 61 games and starting 42 times for the Bobcats. During that time, he averaged 9.4 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game, posting 29 double-digit scoring games and helping Texas State advance to the Sun Belt Conference Tournament semifinals both years.
Last season, Mason posted career highs in all major categories, averaging a team-high 12.9 points (18
th in the Sun Belt), 3.6 rebounds, 2.8 assists (second on the team) and 1.3 steals per game. He scored in double figures 20 times, including four 20-point games, and had seven games with five-or-more assists. The San Antonio native went on to earn a spot on the Sun Belt All-Tournament Team after averaging 16.5 points, 5.8 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.3 steals in Texas State's four games, including a career-high 25 points (9-11 FG, 3-3 3FG) in a quarterfinal win over Troy.
