Â
The UIC men's basketball program enters a new era this season with the arrival of first-year head coach
Rob Ehsan, who not only brings with him four successful seasons as head coach at UAB, but a lengthy run as a decorated assistant coach at power-conference programs Maryland, Virginia Tech and Stanford.
Â
Along with a new head coach, the Flames will have a fresh and exciting new look this season with one of the highest-ranked recruiting classes in the Valley. UIC will also bring back two veteran starters in senior forward
Filip Skobalj, who averaged 8.2 ppg. and ranked second in the MVC with a .418 three-point percentage (leading all MVC returnees for 2024-25), and senior guard
Ethan Pickett, who added 6.0 ppg. and was second on the team with a .533 field-goal percentage last season.
Â
"This season promises to be filled with grit, determination and a relentless pursuit of excellence," Ehsan said. "Having our loyal Flames fans there in the stands is about more than just watching games and supporting our team — it's about becoming an integral part of what we're building at UIC. Each night, we aim to inspire, compete and live up to our name as Chicago's College Team. Through their own commitment as season ticket holders, our fans fuel our players' spirit and drive us towards our goals. Together, let's create an atmosphere at Credit Union 1 Arena that echoes with passion and victory and make this season one for the record books!"
Â
UIC women's basketball is a team on the rise following two successful seasons under head coach
Ashleen Bracey. Last year, the Flames went 18-16, earning the program's second consecutive postseason tournament berth (fourth in school history) and its first WNIT appearance since 2007. UIC has also posted back-to-back winning seasons under Bracey (19-17 in 2022-23 with a trip to the Women's Basketball Invitational), a feat the Flames hadn't accomplished in a decade (2013-14 and 2014-15 seasons). In two seasons under Bracey's leadership, UIC has already won more games (37) than it did in the seven seasons prior to her arrival and has finished in the top seven in the MVC during both seasons it has been a member.
Â
In 2024-25, the Flames are expected to return nearly their entire roster, including their starting five and many key reserves. Leading the way will be a pair of all-MVC selections in senior guard
Makiyah Williams (team-high 12.9 ppg.) and graduate student forward
Keimari Rimmer (10.7 ppg., team-high 6.5 rpg. and 1.6 spg.). Joining the returnees will be three transfers in
 Jalysa Stokes (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Central/UMSL),Â
Julia Coleman (St. Louis, Mo./Westminster Christian Academy/Texas State) andÂ
Arin Freeman (Little Rock, Ark./North Little Rock/Coastal Carolina). The Flames also added two incoming freshmen in guard
Chantrel "Tutu" Clayton (St. Louis, Mo./Cardinal Ritter/Vashon), who is the reigning Missouri Class 4 Player of the Year, and 6-4 center
Magdalena Winter (Berlin, Germany), who has been a mainstay with the German U16 and U17 National Teams since 2021.
Â
"We are so grateful to those who have supported us during the growth and development of our women's basketball program the past two seasons," Bracey said. "It's an honor and privilege to represent UIC as we strive for excellence every day. During our drive to compete for championships, it will always be more about the journey that we embark on with our university, community and fans. Their presence in the stands makes a world of difference and their energy and belief are the foundation upon which we build our success. We invite everyone to join us this season as we pursue success and make memories that will last a lifetime."
