CHICAGO (June 3, 2026) – UIC student-athletes continue to demonstrate excellence both in competition and in the classroom, as the Flames recorded a 3.38 cumulative grade-point average (GPA) during the Spring 2026 semester, one of the highest semester marks in department history.
Â
The achievement extends UIC Athletics' streak to 24 consecutive semesters with a department-wide GPA of 3.0 or higher, underscoring the department's sustained commitment to academic success.
Â
Fresh off capturing its first Missouri Valley Conference Tournament championship and NCAA Tournament berth, the UIC women's soccer team led all Flames programs with a 3.72 GPA during the Spring 2026 semester. On the men's side, the UIC men's tennis team posted a department-best 3.67 GPA.
Â
"Our student-athletes continue to set an impressive standard for excellence in every aspect of the collegiate experience," said
Andrea Williams, UIC Director of Intercollegiate Athletics. "Achieving a 3.38 department GPA while competing at a high level across our programs speaks volumes about their dedication, discipline and commitment to representing UIC with pride. We are equally grateful for the outstanding support provided by our coaches, academic staff and campus partners who help create an environment where our student-athletes can thrive."
Â
More than 20 percent (60) of UIC's 282 student-athletes earned a perfect 4.0 GPA during the semester, while over half (154) were named to the Dean's List after posting a semester GPA of 3.5 or higher. Additionally, close to 80 percent (223) of all UIC student-athletes recorded a Spring 2026 GPA of at least 3.0 and were recognized as Flames Scholar-Athletes.
Â
Wednesday's announcement is the latest in a series of notable academic accomplishments for UIC Athletics. Last month, the Flames earned a 992 NCAA Academic Progress Rate (APR) score, with six programs achieving perfect multi-year APR marks. This past November, UIC Athletics announced a 91-percent Graduation Success Rate (GSR), marking the fifth consecutive year the department surpassed the 90-percent threshold. Six UIC programs also recorded perfect 100-percent NCAA GSR scores.
Â
"These results reflect a culture within UIC Athletics that embraces academic excellence and personal growth," said
Karen Dixon, UIC Associate Athletics Director for Academic Services. "Our student-athletes consistently rise to the challenge of balancing the demands of their academic responsibilities with Division I athletics, and we are proud of the determination they show every day. This success is the product of a true team effort involving our student-athletes, coaches, academic support staff and university partners."
