Men's Soccer Prepares for Second City Rival Showdown Monday

Flames Welcome Northwestern to West Loop for City Derby

9/1/2024 3:03:00 PM

CHICAGO (Sept. 1, 2024) – The UIC men's soccer team (1-2-0, 0-0-0 MVC) returns home to Chicago this week, as it prepares for a Labor Day match against Northwestern (3-0-0, 0-0-0 B1G). Kick-off is set for 7 p.m. CT from Flames Field, and admission is free for all fans in attendance. The match can also be seen live on ESPN+, and live stats are available via UICFlames.com.

FIRST WIN OF THE YEAR
The Flames earned their first victory of the 2024 regular season last Sunday, as they closed out their two-match home stand with a 4-2 win over Green Bay. Bart Muns (Amsterdam, Netherlands/Santa Barbara CC) was the hero for UIC, as his go-ahead tally with less than 12 minutes remaining proved to be the match-winner and earned him his third brace in his two seasons with the Flames.

OFFENSIVE ACUMEN
Despite playing one of the tougher non-conference schedules in the Missouri Valley Conference thus far, the Flames continue to lead the conference in several offensive categories, including goals (8), assists (8) and points (24).

SERIES NOTES
UIC holds a 14-12-2 advantage over the Wildcats in their all-time series. Northwestern bested the Flames by a 4-1 final score on Sept. 11, 2023 in Evanston, Ill.

UP NEXT
The Flames will head back on the road following Monday night's contest, as they head to Rochester Hills, Mich. for the back end of a home-and-home series with Oakland. The Golden Grizzlies and Flames played to a 2-2 tie on Sept. 1, 2023 in Chicago.
