Men's Soccer Prepares for In-State Showdown with NIU Saturday

Flames Play First MVC Road Match of 2024 This Weekend

9/27/2024 8:30:00 AM

CHICAGO (Sept. 27, 2024) – The UIC men's soccer team (4-4, 0-1 MVC) heads back on the road this weekend, as it traverses to nearby DeKalb, Ill. for a Saturday showdown with NIU (2-7, 0-1 MVC). The match will serve as the Flames' first MVC road match of the season, as UIC was 1-1 in true road matches in the non-conference.

FLAMES FACTS
Looking to rebound from a hiccup in the MVC opener last Saturday against Missouri State, the Flames will seek to build on recent momentum, as UIC is 3-1 in its last three matches dating back to Sept. 6.

Junior midfielder Rui Reis (Lisbon, Portugal) continues to lead the Flames offensively, pacing UIC in goals (3), assists (4), and points (10) this season. Goalkeeper Kevin Dabrowski (Des Plaines, Ill./Maine West) is 2-1 in his three starts this season in place of the Injured Oren Asher (Hetzliya, Israel/Rutgers), allowing only three goals over that span.

SERIES NOTES
The Flames have gotten the better of the Huskies in the all-time series, as UIC holds a 14-8-1 advantage over NIU in their 23 career matches dating back to 1981. The Huskies were last in Chicago on Senior Night, Oct. 27, 2023, as the Flames closed the MVC slate last year with a 2-0 victory.

UP NEXT
UIC will return home next weekend, as the Flames welcome Bowling Green to Flames Field for the first time in program history next Saturday, Oct. 5. This match will not be streamed live on ESPN+ due to UIC volleyball playing at the same time, but admission is free for all fans in attendance, and we will also celebrate Alumni Day.
