Women’s Basketball Aims to Bounce Back Saturday at Northern Iowa

Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. (CT).

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (Jan. 3, 2025) – The UIC women's basketball team (4-7, 1-1 MVC) will make its second stop in a four-game road trip when it faces Northern Iowa (7-6, 2-0 MVC) at the McCleod Center Saturday for a 2 p.m. (CT) tip-off.
 
The game will be available to stream on ESPN+ with Brad Wells and Laura Leonard on the call. Fans can also follow live stats at UICFlames.com.

SCOUTING NORTHERN IOWA
 
  • This will be the 21st time both programs are set to compete on the hardwood. The Panthers hold a 15-5 overall lead in the series.
  • The Flames are in search of their first win since defeating the Panthers 70-61 on Dec. 4, 2003, at home. UIC was led by Chrissy Dizon (2003-06) with 22 points, and Krystal Hugelier (2003-2006) contributed 16 points in the win.
  • Northern Iowa is coming off of a 5-6 showing against non-conference opponents, including stunning formerly ranked Iowa State (10-5) in an 87-75 victory behind a 37-point performance from senior guard Maya McDermott on Nov. 20.
  • The Panthers have collected back-to-back Missouri Valley Conference wins with 75-65 victory on the road against Indiana State (2-11, 0-2 MVC) on Dec. 29 and a 93-70 win over Valparaiso (5-8, 1-1 MVC) Thursday night.
  • The Panthers remain dangerous from beyond the arc, leading the MVC and ranking 10th in the entire NCAA DI with a 38.35 three-point percentage.
 
LAST MATCHUP – VS. DRAKE
 
  • The Flames opened their four-game road trip at the Knapp Center Thursday night, falling to Drake (8-5, 2-0 MVC) in an 86-63 bout in Des Moines, Iowa.
  • UIC was led in scoring by graduate student Danyel Middleton (Chicago, Ill./Bolingbrook/Marquette) with 10 points, three rebounds and a steal. The forward has five games in double figures this season and 30 games in her career at UIC.
  • Graduate student Kristian Young (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence North) scored nine points and dished out four assists in 18 minutes of play off the bench. Young has tallied 472 career assists in a Flames uniform, 33 assists away from surpassing Terri Bender (2012-17) as the new leader in program history.
  • Senior Arin Freeman (Little Rock, Ark./North Little Rock/Central Carolina) contributed 11 points and led the team in rebounds with six.
