Women’s Basketball Returns to the Road Friday to Take on Belmont

First tip is slated for 2 p.m. (CT).

NASHVILLE (Jan. 9, 2025) – The UIC women's basketball team (4-8, 1-2 MVC) returns to the road for the second consecutive weekend as they prepare to face off against Belmont (7-7, 2-1 MVC) at the Curb Event Center for a 2 p.m. (CT) tip-off Friday evening for more Missouri Valley Conference play.
 
The game will be available to stream on ESPN+ with live stats at UICFlames.com.

SCOUTING BELMONT
 
  • This will be the fifth time both programs are set to meet on the hardwood, with the previous four meetings all taken place since UIC joined the MVC in July 2022, the Flames are in search of their first win against the Bruins.
  • In their last meeting, the Flames went toe-to-toe with the Bruins in the Quarterfinal round of the 2024 MVC Conference Tournament (Hoops in the Heartland) last March. The Flames carried a lead late into the fourth quarter, before the Bruins rallied to win 70-65. Graduate student Danyel Middleton (Chicago, Ill./Bolingbrook/Marquette) led UIC in scoring with 19 points and grabbed five rebounds. Senior Krystyna Ellew (Chicago, Ill./Taft/Wisconsin) netted 13 points and fellow classmate Makiyah Williams (Chicago, Ill./Trinity/Marquette) scored 10 points, grabbed four rebounds and dished out three assists.
  • The Bruins finished non-conference play with a 6-5 record, collecting wins over the likes of Wichita State, Davidson and Middle Tennessee. Belmont enters the weekend 2-1 in conference play, fresh off of a 79-66 road victory at Southern Illinois last Saturday.
  • The Bruins' front court of seniors Carmyn Harrison and Kendal Chessman are a strong defensive unit, having collected a combined 27 blocked shots and 171 combined total rebounds this season.
 
LAST MATCH-UP – at Northern Iowa
 
  • The Flames finished out the Iowa road trip falling in the second half against Northern Iowa (8-6, 3-0 MVC) 74-65 at the McCleod Center in Cedar Falls, Iowa Saturday afternoon.
  • The Flames were led in scoring by graduate student Kristian Young (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence North) who netted 12 points, grabbed three rebounds and three assists. Young has now played in over 125 games in her UIC career, surpassing UIC alum Briana Hinkle (2006-11) as the program's leader in played games.
  • Graduate student Jaida McCloud (Peoria, Ill./Richwoods) scored nine points in the contest, surpassing LaShonda Grant to become the 7th all-time program leader in career points with 1,458 points and counting.
  • Senior Sandra Frau-Garcia (Pego, Spain/Casper College) netted nine points in her fifth start of the season, reaching a new career high at UIC since joining the team a season ago.
