Volleyball Gears Up for Midweek MVC Clash at Valparaiso Tuesday Night

The Flames look to build on their three-match winning streak.

VALPARAISO, Ind. – The UIC volleyball team (11-7, 5-3 MVC) hits the road for a Missouri Valley Conference midweek matchup at Valparaiso (16-5, 7-1 MVC) Tuesday evening at the Athletics–Recreation Center (ARC), with first serve set for 6 p.m. (CT).

SCOUTING VALPARAISO
  • The Flames look for redemption after falling to the Beacons, 3-0, at Credit Union 1 Arena on Oct. 7. Senior Ayat Amin led the UIC attack with 15 kills in the match.
     Valparaiso enters Tuesday's contest riding a six-match winning streak, with four of those victories coming in five sets. The Beacons currently sit in second place in the Missouri Valley Conference standings.
  • Sophomore Ava Helming turned in a strong weekend against Belmont (13-6, 4-4 MVC) and Murray State (3-14, 1-7 MVC), totaling 32 kills and averaging 3.56 kills per set.
  • Senior libero Emma Hickey recorded 41 digs across the two matches, averaging 4.56 per set. She enters Tuesday's contest with 2,526 career digs in a Valparaiso uniform.
LAST WEEKEND RECAP—vs. MURRAY STATE/BELMONT
  •  The Flames kept things exciting over the weekend, earning back-to-back five-set victories over Murray State and Belmont.
  • Amin closed the weekend with a team-leading 38 kills, averaging 3.80 kills per set. She also added 10 blocks and 15 digs across 10 sets played.
  •  Redshirt sophomore Antonie Kelnárová tallied 36 kills over the weekend (3.60 per set) and led the team with five service aces, including four consecutive in the win over Belmont.
  • Redshirt sophomore Hannah Ditsworth was a force at the net, posting her first double-digit blocking performance with 10 blocks in the victory over Murray State. She finished the weekend with 15 total blocks, averaging 1.50 per set.
  • Redshirt sophomore Mihaela Harizanova dished out 28 assists in the win over the Racers, surpassing 1,000 career assists since joining the Flames program.
