CHICAGO – Hosting their final home game of the 2025 Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) regular season, the UIC women's soccer team welcomed the Belmont Bruins to Flames Field. With hopes of sneaking into postseason action, the Flames (6-7-4, 2-3-3 MVC) took advantage of an early goal by
Riley Collett to start their momentum and never looked back, as they went on to defeat the Bruins (3-6-7, 1-4-3 MVC) 3-0.
Momentum started out in favor of the visiting Bruins, who recorded back-to-back shots in the 4
th minute of action before the Flames were able to get on the offensive side of the field. Although the momentum started in favor of the Bruins, it shifted quickly towards the Flames when
Riley Collett scored her first, and the team's first, goal of the contest in the 16
th minute. Scuffling for a loose ball in the penalty box,
Sophia Jaime tapped the ball out to a wide-open Collett. Hitting it with her right foot, Collett's shot hit off a Bruins defender before making its way into the back of the net, giving the Flames a 1-0 lead. Through the remainder of the half, the two sides battled up and down the field, with the Flames outshooting the Bruins 3-2 before the halftime whistle sent the teams off the field with UIC on top 1-0.
Coming out of the half, a back-and-forth game ensued before the Flames extended their lead in the 67
th minute. Earning a penalty kick after being fouled inside the 18-yard box,
Hannah Gryzik placed a right-footed shot into the lower left corner, opposite the Bruins' goalkeeper, to put the Flames on top 2-0. Then, in the 79
th minute, Collett scored her second of the game, earning herself a brace.
Camryn Ries would start the play, crossing the ball into the 18-yard box to where a Belmont defender attempted to head the ball out. Unfortunately for the Bruins, the clearance attempt landed directly on the foot of Collett, whose first touch set her up for a left-footed shot. Collett slotted the ball into the left side netting, giving the Flames a 3-0 lead. This marked Collett's first brace since September 19
th, 2024. UIC would finish the half not allowing Belmont a goal, completing a 3-0 shutout victory.
Francesca Faraci and
Sara Sanabria combined for the shutout victory, with Faraci making three saves and Sanabria making two over the 90 minutes of action.
