Volleyball Opens Two-Week Road Trip in Indiana on Friday

The Flames are set to face Evansville and Indiana State this weekend.

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The UIC volleyball team (13-7, 7-3 MVC) looks to keep its momentum rolling as it kicks off a two-week Missouri Valley Conference road swing against Evansville (6-16, 2-8 MVC) and Indiana State (9-13, 3-7 MVC).

SCOUTING EVANSVILLE
  • Friday marks the 12th all-time meeting between UIC and Evansville, with the Flames holding a narrow 6-5 advantage in the series.
  •  In their most recent matchup, UIC swept the Purple Aces in straight sets at Credit Union 1 Arena last November. Senior Cleo Lorenzo tallied eight kills, eight digs and two service aces in the victory.
  • Evansville is seeking its first win since Oct. 14, having dropped recent contests to UNI (17-5, 10-0 MVC), Belmont (14-7, 5-5 MVC) and Murray State (4-15, 2-8 MVC).
  • Freshman Hinsley Everrett has been a standout in her debut season, leading the Purple Aces in kills (218) and kills per set (2.69).
SCOUTING INDIANA STATE
  • Friday marks the 10th meeting between UIC and Indiana State, with the Flames leading the all-time series 7-2. Since joining the Missouri Valley Conference, UIC holds a 3-1 record against the Sycamores.
  • In their most recent matchup, UIC swept Indiana State in straight sets last November at Credit Union 1 Arena. Junior Gabi Peter led the attack with 12 kills and two blocks.
  •  Indiana State enters the weekend on a five-match skid, most recently earning a win over Murray State in a five-set thriller on Oct. 10.
  • Junior Kira Holland recently surpassed the 300-kill mark this season and averages 3.66 kills per set. She has recorded double-digit kills in 27 matches this year.
 
LAST WEEKEND RECAP – VS. SOUTHERN ILLINOIS
  • The Flames extended their winning streak to five matches Friday with a 3-0 sweep over Southern Illinois (10-14, 4-6 MVC) in front of the home crowd at Credit Union 1 Arena.
  •  Senior Ayat Amin led the way with 11 kills and two blocks, while Cleo Lorenzo added 10 kills and seven digs.
  • Senior Julieta Sandez chipped in seven kills on an impressive .635 hitting percentage.
  • The five-match streak ties UIC's season high, previously set from Sept. 6–20.
  • Friday's victory marked the Flames' sixth sweep of the season, including their third against a Missouri Valley Conference opponent and second over Southern Illinois.
