Men's Soccer Falls at Evansville In MVC Semifinals

Flames finish with a 10-3-5 record, tying for fewest losses in a season in program history

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Junior midfielder and Hermann Trophy candidate Edouard Nys scored his NCAA-leading 16th goal of the season, but fifth-seeded UIC was eliminated from the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Tournament with a 4-1 semifinal loss at No. 1 seed Evansville on Wednesday night at Arad McCutchan Stadium. The Flames (10-3-5) were making their second MVC semifinals appearance in the past three seasons and were seeking their first finals berth since 2019.

Nys, the MVC Player and Forward of the Year, slotted home a rebound off a saved penalty kick with 12 seconds left in the first half to put UIC on the board. The score vaulted Nys into sole possession of third place on the UIC single-season goals charts, registering the most scores by a Flames' player since 1999 (All-American Eric Lukin - school-record 21 goals).

The Flames also got a career-high seven saves from redshirt junior goalkeeper Kevin Dabrowski, who was pressed into service when UIC's starting netminder, senior Owen Cornell, was injured during pre-match warmups and was unable to play.

UIC closes out the season by tying a program record for fewest overall losses (3 - also in 1998, 2006 and the COVID-abbreviated 2020 season), while setting another mark for most conference ties (4).
