SCOUTING SOUTHERN ILLINOIS

  • This will be the 19th time the Flames and Salukis will battle it out on the basketball court. Southern Illinois holds a 12-6 overall lead on the series, but UIC has won two of the past three meetings since joining The Valley in 2022.
  • In their last meeting, the Salukis outlasted the Flames in a 69-65 overtime defeat at Credit Union 1 Arena last March. Graduate student Jaida McCloud (Peoria, Ill./ Richwoods) secured a double-double, scoring 13 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Fellow classmates Danyel Middleton (Chicago, Ill./Bolingbrook/Marquette) netted 13 points, while Keimari Rimmer (Chicago, Ill./Proviso East/DePaul) scored 12 points and grabbed six rebounds.
  • The Salukis are in the final game of a four-game homestand, searching for their first victory since defeating Evansville (6-18, 2-11 MVC) 72-69 on Feb. 7. They recently fell to Missouri State (19-5, 11-2 MVC) in an 83-48 bout Thursday night.
  • Four-time MVC Newcomer of the Week Gift Uchenna continues to shine for the Salukis, leading the team in points (15.0) and rebounds (13.4) per game.

LAST GAME OUT – AT VALPARAISO
  • After a slow start to the game, the Flames couldn't catch up to the Valparaiso Beacons (9-15, 5-8 MVC) on the road Thursday night, falling 60-51.
  • Rimmer led the Flames in scoring with 14 points and nine rebounds in 21 minutes off the bench. Senior Makiyah Williams (Chicago, Ill./Trinity/Marquette) netted 11 points and grabbed seven boards.
  • Collecting three assists in the game, graduate student Kristian Young (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence North) surpassed Terri Bender (2012-2017) as the leader in career assists in program history. The guard has 505 assists and counting.
  • Scoring four points against Valparaiso, graduate student Jaida McCloud (Peoria, Ill./Richwoods) enters the top five in career scoring (1,524 points), surpassing UIC Hall of Famer Angela Gilbert (1989-93) who finished her career with 1,520 points.
