Softball Falls in Extra Innings Thriller to Cal Poly Sunday Afternoon

UIC finishes Silicon Valley Classic I, going 2-3 over the weekend.

SAN JOSE, Calif. (Feb. 16, 2025) – The UIC softball team (4-6) went toe-to-toe with Cal Poly (2-8) in an extra innings affair at San Jose State's Spartan Softball Stadium Sunday afternoon, falling short 7-4 in a ten-inning game.
 
Redshirt senior Alyssa McIntosh (Lancaster, Calif./Lancaster) threw the complete game, allowing 10 hits, striking out four and walking a pair of batters. Senior Hailey Cowing (Torrance, Calif./West Torrance) had a stellar showing in the batter's box, batting four-for-five, scoring once. Redshirt senior Dee Dee Caskey (Indianapolis, Ind./ Bishop Chatard) went two-for-three with two walks and an RBI.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
  • After only collecting a hit last weekend in Mobile, Caskey collected nine hits in California over the weekend, batting .563 with five RBI and six runs scored.
  • McIntosh finished the weekend with 24.0 innings pitched, three complete games, two shutouts. Credited with wins over UC San Diego and Colorado State, the hurler struck out 12 batters and only walked five.
  • Collecting four hits in today's game against the Mustangs, Cowing has nine hits on the season, tied for third in the Missouri Valley Conference.
