CHICAGO Four UIC basketball players have been recognized for their work, both on the court and in the classroom, with this week's selection to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District® Team.

Senior Sandra Frau-Garcia and graduate students Keimari Rimmer and Kristian Young represented the UIC women's basketball team. In addition, men's basketball senior Filip Škobalj earned the honor for the second time in his career.

To be eligible for the CSC Academic All-District® Team, a student-athlete must have at least sophomore standing with a 3.50 cumulative grade-point average and must have competed in 90 percent of the institution's contests played or started in at least 66 percent of its games.

Garcia played in all 33 games this season for the Flames, starting in 15 of them. She was second on the team in assists with 106, ranking 11th in the Missouri Valley Conference in assists per game (3.2). She finished the season with 5+ assists across nine games. Hailing from Pego, Spain, Garcia will be graduating in May with her degree in Human Development and Learning.

Rimmer finished this season playing in all 33 games, starting 11 times. She shared the team lead in scoring (9.5 ppg.) while leading the Flames in rebounding (5.9 rpg.). Rimmer capped her career at UIC scoring in double figures in nine of her final 10 games, including leading UIC to a 63-48 victory over UAB in the opening round of the 2025 Women's National Invitational Tournament (WNIT) on March 21 at Credit Union 1 Arena. In that victory (the program's first-ever WNIT win), Rimmer secured a double-double with a career high-tying 22 points and 10 rebounds. The Chicago native is set to receive her graduate degree in Youth Development later this Spring.

Young appeared in all 33 games, starting 27 of them, during her final season at UIC. The Flames' point guard is the program's career leader in assists (544) and games played (144). This season, she led UIC and ranked fourth in the MVC in assists (3.4 apg.), while leading the conference in assist/turnover ratio (2.5). Originally from Indianapolis, Young will obtain her Master's degree in Public Health this May.

In his final season in a UIC uniform, Škobalj started all 31 games for the UIC men's basketball team, posting a career-high 8.5 points per game and making 64 three-pointers (the latter also a team-best), while ranking fourth in the MVC with a .405 three-point percentage. Škobalj departs UIC as one of the elite perimeter shooters in program history, ranking eighth in school history with 227 made three-pointers, seventh with 582 three-point attempts and just outside the top 10 with a .390 career three-point percentage. A three-time MVC Scholar-Athlete First Team honoree, Škobalj will graduate from UIC in May with his bachelor's degree in Management.
