LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The UIC baseball team (2-13, 0-0 MVC) closed out its first full weekend series of March on Sunday, as the Flames looked to salvage a win against nationally recognized Louisville (12-2, 0-0 ACC).
Despite some early momentum for the Cardinals after scoring a run in each of the first two frames, the Flames stiffened up defensively, keeping Louisville off the board for the next four innings.
Luke Nowak continued his hot hitting on the weekend with an RBI double in the top of the seventh to cut the deficit to 2-1.
The Cardinals bats re-awoke in the home half of the seventh, plating three more runs to extend their lead to 5-1.
AJ Taylor added his second home run of the series in the top of the eighth, but the Flames were unable to narrow the gap, falling 5-2 and dropping the final game of the series.
