Chicago – UIC men's tennis (15-5 MAC 6-3) made a statement on the road Friday, earning a 4-3 win over perennial MAC contender Western Michigan. With the victory, UIC clinches the MAC Regular Season Runner-Up spot and punches its ticket to the MAC Tournament for the first time in program history.
The Flames dropped the doubles point, with the Broncos securing wins at No. 1 and No. 3. Artem Alekseychuk and Milos Mikovic were tied 4-4 at No. 2 doubles when the match was halted.
Despite the early setback, UIC roared back in singles with clutch performances across the lineup.
At No. 1, Artem Alekseychuk opened the run with a convincing 6-4, 6-2 win. Eldin Nokic followed with a gutsy 7-6 (13), 6-2 win at No. 2. Milos Mikovic extended the lead with a dominant 6-2, 6-0 win on court three.
Western Michigan pulled one back at No. 4, but Simon Knezevic came through in three sets at No. 5 (6-4, 4-6, 6-3) to put the Flames on the brink. Emil Dapcevic sealed the deal at No. 6 with a 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 comeback win.
The Flames will head into the MAC Tournament with momentum and history on their side as they chase a championship opportunity.
